Quickrete play sand?????

Some people say that using that stuff is the same thing as using agar. sand, and some also say that they have success with it! However, I cannot recommend it because even if you swift out all metals, it does not always contain arag. which is vital. Saltwater is a very expensive hobby I am sure you know, my opinion is that you don't want to take a chance on that type of sand because it can cost you a lot money and time. Do it right the first time and you won't regret!

I used play-sand in a cichlid tank, years ago and it was very attractive! (Plus the fish loved it.) Ever since then I've always used sand for substrate.
However, I must agree with BillyJoe. Your sand will be a vital part of your filtration system. Get something that's going to work for you!
Now I use Aragomax or something similar and at least 20-30% live sand.

hey billy joe...good to see another local hobbyist... if you are just getting into this hobby I can reccommend few local places to check out for live stock/hardware if you want...my e mail is jakob3001@excite.com
quickquete is has multiple packaging plants around the country that usually use local resources...which means it will vary in content & color...for just a 30 gallon size tank you might as well bite the bullet & shell out the $$$ for couple bags of 40 lb sand & maybe 1 20 bag of Live Sand... FISH RANCH II currently has the best prices on substrate regularly so far... the carrib sea sand 40 lbs was about $18 & the LS was about the same for 20 lb bag; you can add 1 bag at a time as you are able to afford though; but of course that may cause your water to become cloudy for few days depending on method used to add & how powdery the sand is
