R.I.P. JD

I've had my aquarium for exactly 4 months and 3 weeks. Aside from 3 peppermint shrimp (that my skunk cleaner shrimp killed), I haven't lost a single fish until yesterday. JD my little Lawn Mower Blenny who was my 1st fish and who I've had for around 3 months has passed away. When I purchased him I wasn't aware at the time that they needed a much more established aquarium to survive. I considered myself lucky that he lived as long as he did. He seemed to be doing fine eating from algae sheets, munching on the red macro algae, and sometimes eating formula 1. He didn't appear to have any disease and all of the other fish are doing excellent. He was recently becoming thinner and thinner. He was alive night before last and by yesterday afternoon I discovered my large hermit crabs and my little peppermint shrimp eating his remains :( There was hardly anything left! I guess that's the circle of life. He was my absolute favorite fish and I'm very sad to see him go

Sorry for your loss. I just lost my LMB recently and it seems that there is a growing consensus that these guys might be best suited for the ocean due to their dietary requirements.

ahhh, thanks you all. I agree with you Gemmy, it seems like these little guys might just only be meant for the sea. It's such a shame because they are so cute and they have funny little personalities. When I put my hand in the aquarium, JD would come up and 'give me kisses'. Sometimes he would go for a short ride on top of a hermit crab, or eat the algae off of my Mexican Turbo snail's shell. He also liked to 'ride the surf' by swimming to the front of the power head and then shooting forward on the current. He wasn't the most colorful SW fish, but he definitely had the most personality!

Those blennies definitely have a personality! Sorry for the loss. Other than that, hows everything else doing?

Everything else is going great! I still haven't gotten any coral yet. I decided to wait until I come back from a trip at the end of December. I'm going to be gone for a week and there won't be anyone to check on the aquarium. I'm to paranoid to add anything new and then leave for a whole week. I only have 3 small fish plus the CUC. I live in a new high rise apartment building and don't ever have to worry about the electricity going out.
I plan on hiring a company (if I can find one) that can come once or twice and check on my tank. I get pretty bad salt creep (at least in my opinion) even though I don't notice the water level dropping drastically. I live in Denver which is very very dry. I have to remove salt from the rim of the aquarium on a daily basis. Does that seem normal to you? I also don't have an automatic feeder and I don't want my fish children to starve.
Do you think I'm being overly paranoid? I think having a company come out at least once will give me piece of mind...lol

I almost forgot to ask.....
My lights are on timers. Should I leave them completely off while I'm out of town for a week or keep them on their regular schedule?

What size tank? I sometimes go away for a week at a time and will just let my tank be. I make sure it is topped off and that I feed the fish well before I leave. I think Teresa posted a nifty trick somewhere on how to set up a top off unit that can top off the tank.
