i got coralife r/o unit how often do change cartridge and membrane?its been running about a year used for water changes and top off on a 125 gallon tank

When it's dirty
If you have a TDS meter (total dissolved solids) you can check the water coming out and once the tds starts to go up.. time for a change.
Frequency also depends how bad your tap water is to begin with as well... mine TERRIBLE.. other places not so bad.

yeah i dont it not based on time i thought or use how do u tell with out meter

you just about have to have a tds meter to know when to change your cartridges.

TDS meter is a must if you own a RO unit. I just bought my first RO unit and I bought the meter also. I really didnt need it now but why wait. Depending on how much you use it I seen place say to change the filters every 6 months and the membrane is good for 2-3 years. But a TDS meter will tell you for sure. For $30 you can get a in-line meter like I did. The pen style is good but then its floating around to get lost or damaged.

It is portable, and gives the temp also. The portable units are more accurate and you can test many different sources ,too.
