Just ordered a new MH fixture and a radium 20,000k(which I have read amazing reviews on) 150w HQI. Which will be replacing my current(lol) PC lighting that consists of a 6700/10,000k daylight and a 420/460 actinic. approx how far would you guys recommend as a starting distance to acclimate my tank inhabitants? I was thinking about 18" from the water surface to start. This particular tank is a 20high fyi.

I would put it at 8" to 10" and just cut back on the time its on if your corals are showing stress.I have 20k 250W Radiums, i love them

I just put up 400watt 20k's. So not to blass my corals with the new lighting I'm using 3 layers of window screen. And then I'll take away one layer a week until it's all gone. I have to say I couldn't have done any better as far as brightness and color I'll post pics as soon as I get the screen off.

so I got my 20k radium in today!!! problems already :( It is burning VERY green! have any of the other 20k owners experianced this unusual green burn in? I already called the place I bought it from and have a return in que if this bulb doesnt start burning its true colors in a few days.
Edit:
I got sick of the nasty green burn and swapped in the "backup"(never fired) 14,000k. I cant wait to get a working 20k bulb! This backup bulbs color is amazing at only 14,000k and 30min burn time.

It is a current USA electronic... meh its soso but I called the purchase place and they have had quite a few returns on wrong spectrum radiums. They already have another in the mail to me and they bumped me up to 2 day shipping for free :D.
The 14,000k I am using is a powerpaq 14,000k and for a cheap bulb it has some really nice coloring!

Bumping my old dead thread :p. Finally got a "good" radium in and all I can say is ..... It is by far the brightest 20,000k bulb! It has approx 30hrs burn in time on it and it looks wonderful. I will try to post a pic shortly.
Edit:
Gf's crappy canon SD630 can't take the pictures without overexposing and looking terrible. I guess this is a good reason to buy a rebel :D
