raising the TEMP??

Hi,
I have a case of ICH on my Hippo tang. (all ohter fish are OK)am treating with greenix.. I am on day 3 (second treatment).. I have heard that raising the TEMP will draw out the parasite so you can kill it out of your tank.... IS THIS TRUE??
I cannot QT all my fish, first, They will kill each other in the 10 gallon.. ALSO, I have NOT kept up with my QT so I would have to establish all over! :(
and I cannot hypo my tank (see signature) I am going to "dip" all new guys before putting them into my tank!
Also, a question... what do you guys do with your QT while its just stiing there to keep it OK for use when needed???
Thanking you kindly, Kim

This is true with Fresh Water ick. Crank the heat upto like 86 for a week but with Salt I dont believe this is true. Saltwater ick IMO thrives in salinity. This is why we do hyposalinity. SW ick can not survive in an extreme low salinty level. (1.009) However hypo has to be done in a seperate tank. Corals and inverts in a reef can not tolerate low salinity levels. You will kill them. Also on my QT after it has cycled (20 gallon) it built up a good bacteria and bio load. I only do small water changes every 2 weeks and there should be enough in there to keep it going.

Raising the temp speeds up the life cycle of the parasite, so that the stages of development are stepped up, making it faster to kill the parasite because it gets to the free-swimming stage faster.

Greenex is reef and invert safe.. HYPO isnt!

Kim: Greenex is highly toxic to most animals in a marine tank, particualarly a reef tank. I'd suggest you get the greenx out of your tank as best you can. There are only 2 methods for curing ich, and greenx is not one of them. Hyposalinity and copper treatment are the ONLY VIABLE cures for ich.

Beth,
I have the BOX for greenex right here.... Maybe you are thinking about something else...
GREENEX
Marine Ich
Parasites
Collapsed Fins
White Spots
Scratching and darting
New Fish Conditioner
Will not effect the biological filter.
Invertabrate safe/anti-protozoan agent for MARINE FISH!
Prevents and controls external parasites on Marine FISH
1 drop per gallon concentrated formula treats 600 gallons!
That is exactally what is ON THE BOX! I got it AT the Fish Store.. So, why do you think it will KILL everything in my tank?? I am on my third treatment tommorrow. Everything is alive and actually looking better.............. Has anyone ever used this? I CANNOT imagine this company selling this if it will KILL your marine fish because they would OWE peoplle ALOT of $$$$ For wiping out their thanks... Correct me IF I am wrong Please.
It is made by AQUATRONICS
Thanking yu kindly, Kim

I second the garlic. It seems to work well, sometimes. GreenX does not work, and I do not believe it is reef safe. I used it before I got a QT tank, 1/2 dosage, and it did nothiing except endanger my inverts.

A couple months back, I tried greenex, all it did was kill my fire shrimp! Waste of money, and it makes silicon bluish-green.
