It is just a thawed cocktail shrimp, I hear 1 per 25 gallons. When your ammonia start to spike or a cocoon covers the shrimp take them out. The decaying matter will start the cycle.

You leave the shrimp in until you have an ammonia spike. When it reaches almost 1ppm then take the shrimp out. Test your tank every day and twice a day once you see the ammonia start to rise.

I put one shrimp in the tank no matter what size it will kick start the cycle and get eatin by the critters in the rocks with nothing to take out adding more like the 1 per 25 you will have to remove them and will stink like you wouldnt beleive!!!

Thiss might be super obvious, but I thought I would clarify. The raw shrimp is added to start a cycle at the beginning of a tank set up, and is not added once the tank is up and going with inverts, fish, etc.
You only want ammonia when there is nothing living in the tank. So this is not done once the tank has inhabitants.

Unless of course you are chopping it up and feeding it to your fish and inverts
