Ready To Add Live Rock

I set my 55 gal tank up last night. I added 40lbs of live sand, and now I am ready to add live rock. I can only add 25lbs tonight ($). I can add more later...right?
Also, how do you find all of those great looking rock formations. My LFS only has "lumps" for live rock.

hey dont feel bad, when i started out i could only afford like 30lbs here and there just put in what you can and you can always add more with no problem
to find good rock you have to shop around to find good looking pieces

What happens if I find some really nice LR at lunch. Can I wrap in newspaper and keep in my office until I leave at 4:30??

since you just set up your tank i would say its alright to do that. just keep the rock damp. but when you get your system cycled you will need to take the rock home pretty quick. the less die off the better.

Dont just go to local places shop around on the net to. But if you do make sure you add the shipping price in to the total.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. At my LFS, it seems that $5.99/lb is the average. Does that sound about right??

$3.99?? Sounds great, but I bet you get wonderful rock from those beautiful California beaches. Hopefully I won't get stuck with "wonderfully cruddy" Galveston rock....hehe

Grabbing rock off of the Carolina beaches is illegal and is not as temperate as the rock you get in your LFS. The LFS rock is from Fiji, etc....
You can get the Premium Fiji Rock at the most popular auction site on the interenet for 1.99 /lb...
I just ordered 70 lbs from there for $201 shipped via 5 day UPS
When you add live rock at a different time, it is best to just put it in a tub with a powerhead and monitor that live rock...After the spike, it should then be safe to put it in your tank

I just got back from a LFS where I bought 23 lbs of beautiful Fiji rock. Oh my goodness, I love that store. I have never seen so may saltwater fish in my life!! The fish are priced reasonable for me.
BTW, I am not a he, I am a she.....

I actually meant California (at least I heard it is illegal to take the rock off the beachjes there)....
Not to mention the rock in those water is use to a colder temp in the water. Not sure everything (or anything) would survive once you put it into an 80 degree tank
