Rear Brakes

I did the rear brakes on the missus Honda Odyssey amd came across something I hadnt seen before. The rear rotor was a combination of disc and drum. I dont have a spring compressor so I just did the disc part. I confirmed that the drum part was just for the parking brake so I feel fine about not doing those. My thing is, is this what imports are doing? My mazda protoge (POS) has drums on the back but no discs.
BTW, the impact screwdriver was one of the best $20 I spent in aquiring tools to work on cars. Why are more and more manufacturers putting screws through the rotors and screwing them to the axels? Dont they realize that the tire holds the damn rotor to the axel? And yea, having access to the lift made the front brakes easier to do than the rears. I sure wish I could borrow someone's left every few months so I can work on our cars.

Many makes, both foriegn and domestic, use a drum parking brake setup with rear disc brakes. If your Mazda had rear discs, you would need to remove a plug in the caliper to access a screw that allows the caliper to be compressed. Major PITA if you don't know it's there. I actually like the bolts holding the rotor to the hub. When diagnosing some brake problems it's very convenient to remove the wheels and run the car without the rotors flopping around.
