Hi everyone!
Long time no... post? : )
So here is what happened... About 3 1/2 years I left my FO 72 gallon in my father's care. I was running a Coralife Super Skimmer (65 I think...?) with a Biowheel filter. I've never had any issues with Biowheel filters and yes, I know they're the butt of a lot of controversy. I had about 50 - 60 lbs of live rock and about 3.5 inches of live sand. I had a Foxface, Yellow Tang and Percula Clown.
Having maintained it for years, everything was fine... a bit of algae here and there, but my skimmer had CONSTANT issues. I took it apart and cleaned it about once a month, as it would randomly stop working. It'd work for about two weeks and then quit again. My father is a disabled Vietnam Veteran and kind of has trouble getting around, and after a recent fall that nearly killed him, leaving him in ICU for weeks, the tank went unattended and finally met an untimely end. All stock died. Water is dark and disgusting and the skimmer has died.
My main question is... what should I do? I obviously need to get a new skimmer. Any suggestions?
Should I completely drain the water and begin again with RO+salt and re-cycle?
Suggestions, please! I'll end up stocking it with pretty yet hardy fish for him to enjoy. : )
Thanks, all!
