Red Algae Problem!

I have a red algae problem that just started! what can i do to get rid of it? i still have to get some snails and hermits, but isnt there someting else to do?
I do use regular tap water...

I filled my 20 gal with tap water and used a conditioner on it , it was cheap and worked.
its part of the process with new tanks, and they do also grow brown and green algae.
Other than that, I have herd that tap water is bad and will feed this red algea. you need to use RO water now

Use only R/O water, get a phosphate sponge in put it in your sump. PUll out any rocks that have the red stuff on them, scrub them off and put back in tank. Catch it before it gets out of hand. Check your nitrates, that is often a culprit.

I had that problem and it was from me using tap water... If you can not get a RO unit. I suggest going to your LFS and buying water from them or go to your local supermarket and buy RO water. That cured my problem. Just my thoughts.

i had the same problem for about 4-5 weeks when i first set it up. use Chemi-Pure Ac chemical theats reef safe.
follow the directios But don;t do the water change the do about three to four treatments in a row dependinghow bad the problem is the after that do a water change . Aso buy atinic bulbs . Now my tank is crystal clear with no algea at all. Hope the best of luck

Where do you find RO water and what is it
