What do you feed the fish? i am guessing alot of brine? TAP water should never be used.
What type of slime remover did you use? Barry

STAY AWAY FROM TAP WATER. I LEARNED THIS AFTER BATTILING HAIR AND RED SLME ALGAE WHEN I FIRST STARTED MY REEF. CUT BACK A COUPLE HOURS OF LIGHT FOR A WHILE. MAKE SURE YOU ARE CIRCULATING YOUR TANK HIGH AND LOW. YOU WROTE YOUR CALCIUM READING, IS YOUR ALK. AND PH GOOD? AND DO SMALLER MORE FREQUENT WATER CHANGES WITH R/O D/I WATER. IT IS A PAIN FOR A WHILE BY IF YOU STAY PERSISTENT YOU CAN BEAT IT OVER A FEW WEEKS. GOOD LUCK!

You bought a tank from a 3-year-old? Just kidding. Sounds to me like you need to cut out the tap water, add more flow, and maybe cut back on feeding. You didn't say how many/what kinds of fish you have in there, so I can't be sure if 3 cubes every 3 days is too much or too little. It might, however, be too much at one time. Also, what kind of rock was in there? If it's live rock, I don't know if cleaning and rinsing it was such a good idea.

I have used "chemi clean" in the past and worked well. I followed the directions and treated 2 days in a row followed by a 25% water change after 48 hrs.
That will take care of what is in there but you still need to figure out why it is there. Excessive nutrients in the water combined with the TAP water
would be my guess.

the non tap water is the next big mission. ro will give 100 gal day.
this tank was someones disaster.
it was complete and established.
only had 25lbs live sand and 150lbs rock., 8 fish, 6/8 plants and no cleaning crew
all rock when removed had poop in every oriface.
I added 300lbs more.
there is 4 tangs,3 clowns,3 fire gobbies,2 chaulk bassets,1 flaming hawk,1 manderon dragon, 1 sand sifting star, 4 pencil urchins,snails
I drained water into 2 small buckets to rinse rock from bad debris.
all my levels are good to great. but red slime is the always reoccuring factor.
trying to maintain tank with little or no chemicals.
power heads point down back moving water up front and other moves down side accross front.
1 pump from cellar pushes closed loop to 3'by 1" pvc with holes pointing across whole front.
other pump from sump to upper nozzels
is lighting any factor in this mess??
thanks for all and any help Don

Red slime is a bacteria, so unless you medicate you're not going to get rid of it. Try Chemiclean.
