red algae

I recently (4 weeks) went from a 55 gallon saltwater tank to a 150 gallon saltwater tank. When I did the conversion, I kept the same wet/dry USAquarium filter (did not clean it out to keep the good bacteria in it, it is capable of handling 150 gallons.) Washed the rock on the bottom, but not the plastic plants, or live rocks, in fresh water. I have a case of red algae. It has covered the bottom of the tank twice, I vacuumed it out once to no avail. When the bacteria on the rocks under the red algae have a bubble to let out or when a snail punctures the red film, it appears as a rupture in the red film. I have purchased astrae snails, red and blue leg crabs but they are fighting a losing battle. What can I do to help?

I started using CORAL-VITE a couple weeks ago and all the unwanted algae has all but dissapeared. Your algae problem could just be a cycling thing. We've all seen this stuff in our "NEW SETUPS" and by going bigger, you basically have a new setup. I did my upgrade(40to125) pretty much the same way you did,and my tank recycled.Poss.yours is/will too.......good luck,GOOD MOVE. STEVE
