Probably "slime algae" - bacteria..Usually caused by Nitrates or phosphates in the water.
Do a search here for slime algae, and you will probably find your solution...

Check your Phosphate levels first, then your nitrates.
Red slime or cynobacteria is a bacteria. Therefore you could use a antibiotic to assist you in controling it, however you also will help to kill the benificial bacteria that you need. You can use red slime remover. another chemical. You can use chemi clean......but first heres what I would do.
Check your phosphate and nitrates to help you find out whats going on. At the same time have your top off water checked for those two as well. If you feed frozen food, stop, for a while. Many frozen foods contain phosphate. Depending on how bad your cyno is you might need to syphon some of it out thereby doing a whater change but check that top off water first. If your using tap water change to RO water.
Thats where I'd start.

I check my chemicals everyday and everything is perfect. I asked at the fish store what could this stuff be that looks like rust and I was told that it is red algae caused from too much light. Also the purple on my rocks is turning white in spots. I have 2 half moon snails, 3 hermit crabs, 1 peppermint shrimp, 1 damsel fish. I just started the tank back up 1 week ago. I used RO water when I started it up.
Will this algae go away as I was told by the fish store?
Also I purchased the tank and live rocks from my neice. It had been established for a few years before I got it.

If you just started you tank then this can be normal. Are you using live rock in your tank now? If so then how long are you leaving your lights on?. You might want to shorten your photo period for now.
If you do not have live rock then turn your lights off for another couple of weeks as they are just feeding the algea.
