Sounds like cyano alage. Very common.
We need your water peramiters to help isolate the problem.
It could be a number of things.

Ok...what is your lighting schedule?
What are your tank inhabitants?
How often do you feed?
What size is your tank?

When my bulbs got to about 18 months I got crazy amounts of red/purple algae blanketing everything, less light until new bulbs, scrub/net the algae. it was about a month long battle, have not had it again. GL

A friend gave me some stuff to try. I wouldn't use it for months out of fear, but finally broke down and tried it.
WORKED GREAT!!!! 1 dose and it's 98% gone.
Boyd Enterprise - Chemiclean - Red Slime remover.
Use 2 days before a water change as it says do a 20% WC after 48hrs. Stuff worked great affected no live in my take.
