red algea attack

It sounds like the same problem I was having. I had red at first, then bubble algae. Used freshwater maracyn(with the skimmer off) Then gave the affected rock a good scrubbing in tank water after a water change. Problem solved, so far. If you have it on the substrate do a good vacum job after the maracyn. Are you sure it's red, and not brown?(I would hate to see you dump meds in the tank over diatoms) Do a search on cyanobacteria, and see if that is what you are dealing with. How long has the tank been setup, and what kind of water are you using? Hope this helps.
