Red Ball Sponge?

Can anyone give me any information or share any experience they may have had with a red ball sponge or any sponges in general?

My red ball sponge looked great and then started getting craters all over it but it still appears fine. I know they should be in lower light so that may contribute to the change in surface texture. Ohh Never expose to air as they will die.
I have a 14g Biocube with 72w power compacts.
keep my temp between 80-82

Open the bag underwater..Any air at all and it die a slow death. They like the dark so place under a cave or large overhang. They also require allot of food to pass over it so direct a power head to make sure it has lots of flow. A sponge feeds on nutrients from the water and it can't draw food to itself, it completely relies on the current for that.
Angelfish eat sponges, so keep that in mind. Algae will clog it up and kill it, so that’s why we keep it out of direct light, unlike a coral it doesn’t not open if it is unhappy..If it starves it begins to shrink, until it is a size the food supply will nourish.
Hope that helps..

Thanks for the info. I have noticed it has decreased in size a little but I was more concerned with the small craters all over it.

Is it exposed to algae? Also some fish eat sponges, like angel fish
