How hard are they to keep? And will an Aragonite substrate work or does it HAVE to be sand?
Considering one as my next fish.

I have dreamt of having them!!! However, they are not reef compat. They also tend to burrow into the substrate.
Besides that I don't know but they are awesome looking fish! Can't blame you!

An aragonite base substrate like from a LFS is best. Look for a small grain size if you want....
A Play type sand from a HD or lowes, ect. will most likely be silica based and they are harder with much sharper edges that can harm burrying critters as well as cause other long term issues in a marine system like diatoms and buffering problems, ect..

I already have the tank established with fine Aragonite. I want to know of any "BAD" expereinces with this fish. ANy reason why they would not be a cool fish.

Dear hobbyist, I presently have a Red Corris Wrasse in my 150 gallon aquarium. I have a mixture of crushed coral and live sand. The crushed coral doesn't hinder the RCW at all . When I brought my RCW , it was in an aquarium that had nothing but crushed coral in it, so I brought it. Since then my RCW has grown from 2", to about 6" now. My RCW also shares the aquarium with a cleaner wrasse, Harlequin Tusk,Queen Angelfish,Royal Gamma ,and my 4 Tangs . Its a hardy fish and can be an aggressive eater.

well i have a queen coris which is very simular to the red coris. the only problem i have had with it is that it flips any possible peice of rock it can get to, that includes corals so this fish aint reef safe. o and it aint at lots of my snails and 3 turbo snails.
other than the fish is good it works with all my other fish, its also very interesting to watch it borrow itself in the sand at night
