:notsure: :help: i have a 12g tank, and i'm trying to figure out what fish i could go with? i've looked at the list on this site, and iguess i'm missing something. i wanted to get a puffer, but everyone say that they get to big, but the list size shows 2-3inches. so would a red dawrf lion work, or could someone help me out and recomend some others. thanks for any help.

okay....the list size is not the same as the eventual size. you cannot overstock your tank as you would do with a freshwater tank because ammonia (primary metabolite/waste product) is a lot more toxic in saltwater than in freshwater because of a higher pH. i guess i don't have to explain why you cannot have dwarf lion in 12g then. your best bet would be a single clownfish or something that stays quite small. but, even so you have to pay close attention to water quality.

get a book. Do not rely on what vendors say about things to base your buying them, remember that they are here to make money and sugarcoat their descriptions, I have never found a merchant online that puts out 100% honest info and only one LFS that will tell the complete truth. As to the sizes listed note that that is the size they ship to you as, not max size. Ask and research before paying a dime for anything, best way to save money and be successful in this hobby.

I was looking at the fish list and I found something to prove my point fairly quick. Look at the two species of pipefish they have listed in misc. fish. Moderate and easy care levels it says. ummm I dont know how many of you have ever tried pipefish but there is nothing easy about it, I would have to say they are very tough to expert level fish, due to the types of food, tank conditions, and sheer time involved in keeping them alive. Very similar to seahorses but with smaller mouths.
