Well? I have that right now and I am reading through alot of the threads and it seems that these 2 fish will need much larger than a 55 gal tank. But I have been going to my local store and he assures me it's fine and he also suggested maybe a panter grouper. is he just selling me fish and setting me up for a huge purchase in a year or am i fine?

Not a chance that any of them would be fine in that size tank. If you wanted to keep all three together, you'd need a tank larger than 300gal.

Yea I agree with the other two. Red Snappers Get giant, and fast. There is one at my LFS in a 210 and it is very crowded.

He is setting you up for a big purchase...you are correct. That is some bad advice...and I have to think he knows it.

Panther groupers are so damn cute - 2 inches of personality. Then, 6 months later the thing is eating everything - food, rocks, air bubbles, heaters and most of the other fish it its tank (and in any nearby tanks, too, by sheer willpower). If you buy that fish, I have a bridge that you might be interested in buying - have you ever been to Brooklyn? Anyway, run, don't walk, away from that lfs!

Wow, he is definitely just trying to sell you things. As mentioned, you will need several hundred gallons to keep those fish.

Thanks for the info. I'm not going to be purchasing the panther I jsut wanted some feedback on my LFS status. I don't understand sadly I am completly new to the whole salt deal. I started with a 55gal reef tank and within a month I got a 65gal for free so within 2 months I had 2 large tanks. I went into a store and told this guy my situation and I have literally spent thousands in his store. I have been going there for months but I troll the forums alot and i;m finding his giving me not false information, but not all of it. I don't understand why he is doing this, I am a very loyal customer and don't shop elsewhere unless he is closed and I need something. I kind of feel it maybe half my fault b/c I told him I planned on doing a 250-300 gal tank in about a year after some remodeling is finished. So i guess he took that upon himself to think I would be purchasing that from him, and it would be a good idea to give me fish that would grow entirely to fast and speed up my purchasing. I dunno I jsut feel bad shopping somewhere else, I guess im just old school. but if im gettin screwed than im gettin screwed and i should take my business elsewhere. than im afraid it will happen again.
woe is me.

If you told him you were going to get a 300g tank, then IMO he wasn't being totally dishonest. I think he felt you would have a system to support it. For the short term the are OK in that system, but they will rapidly outgrow it. With that additional info, I don't think he is being totally dishonest.
If he knew nothing about those plans, and said that these fish would be "fine" in a 55g tank, then that would be misleading.

I was very clear that I wasn't able to make a purchase for a full year if not more. Hopefully they don't gorw that fast. I mean I have a 125 in the backyard but it literally has nothign and I would hate to set it up only to take it down once I got the 300 in there 6 months later.
I love the hobby and don't mind the money factor but I don't want to be takin advantage of b/c I don't know much, and im trusting a professional to be that. Sometimes I don't feel he is but i try to look @ both sides before I make a judgement.
I also only paid 45$ for the emperor and I think 30$ for the 6 line. supposdly they are very $$ an he gave me a good deal b/c they were in the store for a long time and he wanted them gone. :(

To be honest. It is sketchy to me. If you feel uncomfortable...then trust that instinct. It can go either way but it is not as bad, IMO, than if he said they were fine for a 55g and had no idea you were getting a larger tank. To sell you stuff he wanted to get rid of...well, I don't know if that is his marketing gimmick or what. I don't necessarily think the prices are rock bottom cheap but then I haven't been in the market for these fish. I don't like that sales tactic, and I hope you bought fish you LIKED rather than him pushing the sale.

Definately more live rock. What kind of skimmer are you using?
And...you need to ship me that Asahi bottle ASAP...it's not good for the fish.

I was aware of more LR and LS. I just haven't gotten around to it because the reef tank takes a bit more money and concentration. I don't have much short of a basic wet/dry. I just do it the hard way with water changes every 9 days until the income will allow for it.

Hah and I wouldn't sell that bottle, I had to sweet talk an old and very angry asian lady @ a buffet for 5 minutes to let me have it. Every that comes to the house says somethign about, I don't know why but it's an eye catcher.
