Red Hair Algea???

I have some brownish red hair algea growing on part of my sand bed and on part of my filter return. All of my water readings are good and the fishies are doing fine. Any idea what could be causing this? Am I keeping my lights on for too long? Currently I have my Actinics kicking on at 7:00am, the daylights kick on at 10:00am and go off at 5:00pm and the actinics go off at 9:00pm.

Cut back on feeding and be sure to have good waterflow in the affected areas. Use RO water for water changes. How old are your lights?
I'd also cut back on lighting time to 8hrs total gradually.

My lights are brand new. I'll try cutting back on the feeding and see what that does. The waterflow in the area is great so I'm not worried about that. Thanks for the help.

If you just recently changed your lights that might be they problem....It will eventually go away if you do what was posted above by bigarn

I've shortened the amount of time my lights are on but I think I might have found another issue. My tank is by my back door so it is getting daylight from about 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 at night. There are some light curtains to protect it from direct sunlight but it is still getting plenty of light. Is this a problem???

ill add to that question does any thing eat it and if not how do you get rid of it i have a 30 gallon tank with a back pack filter and i power head that cycles 150 gph i have 2 astreas 2 mexicans and 2 nassarius along with 2 clowns i only feed them about 1/4 of the cube and anything they dont eat or cant fnd the nassarius eat it right away
