red leafy stuff

i have these red leaves growing out of my live rock .. any ideas on what it is? i mean it looks cool and all but i have not a clue what it is ... have a great day all

I wish it was in my tank lite coverage at best no i found that pic awhile back and keep the site for the article of what it was so i could try to find it. But looks awesome though doesn't it

SARGASSUM???, probably, it often comes on lr but ormally only lasts for a bout 6 months, it will help with nitrates, by removing nutrients from the water

it can be dark red(maroon like) or brownish in color

yes it is a dark red almost maroon color .. it came on the live rock i got from my lfs ... i also notice it growing on other peices as well this is good right??? ... thanks everyone

Hey,
If you are very lucky it may be Gracillaria sp. which is basically a rare red form of caulerpa. I'd love to find some.

Dan .. would you be able to let me see a picture and ill let you know if it looks like it ..... thanks .. its just dark red leaves purtruding right out og the rock ,, also loks like it is starting to grown on other rocks as well ... thanks again

hey tiger i had that red algae plant too i bet! i loved it! i don't have it or the tank anymore but you can see it too to the left of the bubble coral on the big bottom right pic of this page(click on the pic):
