Red legged hermits

I recently added 3 red legged hermits to my tank. I had 2 Mexican hermits in the tank already. I bought the red legs because the Mexican hermits would only come out of the rock work at night. I thought that the red legs would be more social and be out durring the day, however they also hide untill the lights go out and then come out. Is this normal behavior or is something wrong?
Thanks

Its normal. i only see about half the crabs in my tank they just find places to hide and stay there for a while. It took me 2 weeks till i saw my blue knuckle hermits then they dissapeared again for a while.

I have 7 emerald crabs and 190 various hermits in my 180 gal and there is always something moving. They are very helpful in cleaning.

Do you mean scarlet reef hermits (mexicans are also referred to as red legs)? My hermits are very sociable, but the scarlets seem to hide. My blue legs and especially my zebra hermits are always out in front of the tank.
