red lights in the aquarium

What do you all think of red lights for us in night time viewing of fish? I heard that they can’t see the red light is this true? Does it affect corals? And do invertebrates not see it either?
Anyone’s opinion would be appreciated.

I had heard that certain fish cant see red light, becasue it doesnt penetrate very deep into the ocean. I dont believe it though. I shine a red lensed flashlight into my aquarium occasionally, and the critters scatter like I just turned the lights on.

i have had a red light on in my tank for a few days now in the evenings and when all else is dark i see a lot more activity coming from the critters in the live rock at the least. my baby bristle stars start walking about for example. i just don’t know about the fish though. i know that trout cannot see certain colors, i forget which they are.

What about a blue light? I just went to home depot and bought a 4 light strip light for $20 and will be putting blue light bulbs in to simulate moon light. Is their any difference between the red or blue light? Anybody ask any fish this questions lately?
