Red Slime Algae

We apparently have Red Slime Algae. Heard it is caused by Nitrate problems and/or low water movement. Any truth to these causes?
Also, we purchased Red Slime Remover from UltraLife products. Anyone know if this stuff will hurt inverts or live rock? We have a flame scallop, coral banded shrimp, sally lightfoot crab and peppermint shrimp.
Thanks!

Hi:
red slime as you describe it is actually called cyanobacter, as in a cyano bacteria. The red slime remover you have is actually an antibiotic like erythomycin(did you skimer go crazy when you added it?).
Plan accordingly, its usually safe and effective, but until you resolve why you have cyano it will return. Once you've finished treatment, you usually add carbon and do water exchanges to remove the med.
Low water flow, excess nutrients, and poor water quality are factors which can lead to cyano.
