red slime algea

Can't seem to get rid of it.I was wondering if it is because i don't have an undergravel filter.I just have a aquaclear200.i have a 55 gallon tank with 3 fish in it and 4 flouresecent bulbs 1 actinic 1 powerglow and 2 ordinary.

I agree with Sammy this type of algae is caused by heavy organic loads. Although if an aquaclear 200 is all you have pushing the water around or filtering your 55 you are way under filtered or you do not have enough current pushing the debris around until it reaches the filter. I would suggest a few pieces of equipment to avoid this in the future a protein skimmer, a few powerheads, and a R/O unit.
