red slime

Hi I have a question about treating red slime. I have already tried cutting back on feeding and lighting time. Also I have increased my water changes. Nothing has really worked and it just keeps coming back. I picked up some treatment at my lfs to try and help. Before I add this is there anything I need to do? Should I shut off my skimmer while I'm trying this? Thanks for the help.

Another consideration not mentioned is good flow. Improving flow/circulation, in conjunction with sensible feeding, and a reduced photoperiod will usually take care of the problem. You can treat the problem with packaged cures but you need to find the cause to get rid of it permanently.

Gtiguy,
Erythromycin is an antibiotic!! I'm not completely sure, but I don't think that is something that you can put in your tank (?), I'm sure that someone else here will be able to answer that. Hmmmm...

Erythromycin is an antibiotic which means it will kill bacteria--not only cyanobacteria (red slime), but also all your nitrifying bacteria.
Your tank will have to be totally recycled after treatment.

What type of water are you using to make up your salt water--tap, RO? Are you using a phosphate pad or powder?
