I have had my tank for about 2 months now. About 3 weeks ago all this red slimy stuff started growing all of my tank could someone tell me what it is and how to get rid of it. Please I am in need of someone's help.[/IMG]

It is red slime algea and it is easy to get rid of all you have to do is go the your lfs and buy Red Slime Remover follow the instructions. But then as soon as you can you want to get more power heads to get more movement in your tank then it will be harder for the red slime to grow.
I hope this help out a little.
Sarah:)

It looks like cyno. Do a search on cyno on this bbs. You will find many things that could cause this. Lighting, organics in the water...
What is your set up? ie lights, skimmer or no skimmer, filters??
What is your water params?
I had the same problem with cyno. I changed lights and all kinda stuff to get mine gone. Post back with your stuff and we will see if we can help.
(red slime remover did not werk for me. it kept coming back)

More 02 will help, Better circulation and a better light source.
Cyno usually grows in areas where there is little water flow, thus little oxygen.

In Short:
A protein skimmer is a device where oxygen and water are forcd togther causing little bubbles inside a chamber to rise. As the rise, dissolved organics or protein, will stick to the air bubble and rise into a collection cup.
This is the same action you see on the beach with the white foam in the morning along the shore line.
A protein skimmer will also add oxygen to the water. This is another helpful benefit of having one. They range in price from 60-up.
