red stuff growing on powerhead

Looks like Botryocladia skottsbergii , red bubble algae. Strange that it is growing on the powerhead like that. Do you have it elsewhere in the tank? I would probably remove one bubble and see if it breaks open outside of the tank. Should have a kind of thick skin like a grape. If it is that I would remove the powerhead and scrub it all off.

I am so proud of myself... guessed red bubble algae..just a game I play to sharpen my knowledge without doing damage to another person seeking advice, since I am guessing I don't post...anyway..bubble algae is easy to dislodge and the power head draws the water to it, that's why anemones get sucked up...they follow the water current. I think the bubble algae did the same thing and began to grow.

thanks, Spanko.. That is what it is. I don't have it anywhere in my tank so I will take the powerhead out today and give it a good scrubbing.

Way to go Flower!

I read and read and I am still unsure of myself. Now if I see a pic of this I will know the answer but I like to leave answers to those of more knowledge.

I took the powerhead out and cleaned it. It is back and in more spots. Is this stuff bad and if so, how do I get rid of it. I am still looking for my final fish for this tank. Is there one that eats this stuff?
