Upon looking in my tank this morning I see I am getting some Red alge or red goop ( as the GF would call it ) Can anyone tell me what this might be and what I could use to get rid of this? It is on my powerheads and heaters.
hey i have that stuff to i no if you get some rubber pipe and stick it down there you can blow it of try that but it will just grow back but not that fast.
It is red slime/hair algea. You can try a product called chemi-clean that I find works very well and is reef safe. I used it once and have not had a problem since.

Before running down to your lfs and buying any chemicals, you might want to search for posts on cynobacteria. Additionally, you can search the net for it as well, maybe see a photograph and get a positive ID first.
