Are these hard fish to keep? why is that, and what should i feed it

i was given this fish by a freind who left and told me little about the fish it is only about 2 inches long will it get quite a bit larger.

i feed him live brine shrimp today and he definatlly ate his share, does that mean he will eat frozen brine as well? I would like to mix up his diet. I think we r talking about the same fish, he is spotted like a lepord with a red tail their are yellow tailed ones as well.
