Red Tree Sponge Question?

I've had my sponge for about 4-5 months and all of a sudden my sponge started to grow some white stuff on his branches. And I was wondering if anyone out there knows what it is? And if anyone could help me out?

Is the sponge turning white or something is acually growing on it ? Hard to beleive the latter...
They can be/are toxic when dieing. Could trim it but IMO remove it. But without a photo, Im only guessing here.

:scared: Sponges are toxic when dying??? I better keep a close eye on mine.

Some are, some are not. Red Trees are. Mainly a problem in small tanks or with huge sponges.
