Redish stuff in and on my live sand

i have redish maroonish color stuff on and in my live sand, what is it? it's growing quickly.

I might as well ask first...water parameters, tank size, and fish stocking level.
Can you provide a pic?

Most likely cyanobacteria: This is controlled by reducing lighting time, Using RO/DI water, controlling phosphates=Controlling feeding(cut down), Keep you nitates down by regular water changes, Good clean-up crew, and Protein skimmer!

Cyanobacteria is photosynthetic... But dont reduce your lighting. It thrives in low light conditions. Poor lighting can contribute to cyano. - everything they said needs to be addressed except for lighting. I've talked to a guy that increased his lighting on one side of his tank and it made that side clear up.
