I have two 90 gallon fowlr tanks, that have been going for about ten years. Thinking about changing them, one or both to reef tanks. but i have a lot of questions. Both tanks have 2 canister filter that ive never been happy with. So i think iam going with sump refugium type system. I know things are not cheap, so i dont know if i should set up both tanks or just one or sell nthem both and buy a bigger tank. Also i want to put the sump in the room behind the tanks, so it will be 15 foot from tank. Will that work. Can i pump the water back to tank that far away. Will the water cool to much by the time it reaches the ds tank. will it cause to many micro bubbles. Any comments would be helpful

I wouldn't try to set both up simultaneously....I'd start with 1 and go from there, but both can be done at the same time.....With that said you could run them both off of a single sump design, and yes there wouldn't be any issues with draining the water to the sump and pumping it back.....I don't see any issues with the water cooling as well......There should be no micro bubble issues as well if your plumbing is sound.

I was curious if i could run both tanks from one sump. That would be great if i could. Would i run from sump to one tank, then from that tank to other then back to sump or would i have to run each one from sump to tank then back to sump seperately

And would if i were running both ds tanks from one sump, would there be an issue if the power went out, would i have a flood on my hands

As long as the plumbing is done correctly and sump level is correct wouldn't be an issue with flooding.....Wouldn't be any different if the sump supplied 1 tank or 10 tanks.....Things just have to be setup correctly.....You have to account in any back siphon from the DT's.
