OK, one of my live rocks has a carpet of red bacteria on it. It doesn't look bad, but is it bad for the tank? Let me know if I should leave it, or take the rock out and scrub it down. Thanks.

could possibly be red coralline algae, it is a good thing and it will eventually spread. does it look like a hard covering?

No, it's not coraline algae. It is soft and wavy at points.

Red slime algae, it's best to remove as much of it as you can.
If it keeps coming back, you will want to increase your water flow (check for dead areas within the tank), slow down on additives, lighten up on feedings, and check your lighting, see if your bulbs need changing.

Sounds like Red Slime Algae. Is it easy to remove...just by shaking the rock? If so, it's slime algae and you may have to many phosphates in your water. You can buy products lime chimi-clean and red slime removed and it will get reed of it. You should remove as much as possible before you add any chemicals. The algae is easily removed by shaking the rock around in some tank water that you put into a bucket. Check your water source and see if it has high phosphates.
