I just started a FO marine tank about 9 months ago. I started with a domino damsel, yellow tail damsel, Niger Trigger and threw in a yellow tang for color. None of the fish have had ich or anything as of yet, but I have read that the Niger trigger is very resistant to ich. The yellow tang started to show signs of head and lateral line erosion from a poor diet (they are very prone to this) but I started him on "seaweed salad" and he's doing great. The yellow tail damsel is a good looking hardy fish, but I would never get another domino damsel, they are as aggressive as heck, he's even attacked the algae scraper when I was cleaning the glass. All of these are hardy fish, but the trigger and the tang are just beautiful (trigger is not considered reef safe), I would recommend all of these, except of course for the domino. Hope that helps.

I strongly recomend a yellow tang or a clarkii clown. Both are fairly hardy and light on requirements. The yellow tang looks cool as hell but is a picky eater. I keep mine on seaweed salad and some Zoe from Kent Marine and he looks beautiful. In short these are two very cool looking fish for under $20. In my opinion I would avoid damsels at all cost. They are just mean fish. They are cranky all the time. Perhaps thats why they retail for 2 bucks.

Yellow tangs must be the most popular of all marine tank fish. I love them too, but I would probably recommend percula clowns. They're pretty fish, and I don't think you can kill one.

You also might consider a small school of chromises. Very peaceful, colorful, and small, make a great reef addition.

i have always loved my firefish. they are very peaceful and skittish fish. if you want to keep them they have to have a place to hide in a more active tank. I have watched mine run away from scarlet reef hermits. Perc clowns are great as well. I had a mated pair of black ones until a few weeks ago. very upsetting. theyb were always in the forefront of the tank looking at what was going outside.
lesson learned though, never trust anyone about fish, and never add them right to your tank.

flame hawks, arc-eye hawks, or any howk for that matter. they can be a littel agressive but have tons of personality and add color to a tank. i also am a personal fave of bicolor blennies. these guys are definately cool, and always have a googley expression on their face. both are very hardy and well suited for a reef tank!
good luck

p.s clams do great if they have the proper conditionis, light, calciume, alk, etc. scallops on the other hand have a poor survival rate, in an aquarium mainly cause they need to be fed tons of plankton in order to survice. clams can produce their own food under intense lighting, but should be tried with care. go with a brown specimen such as t. deras, or t. squamosa first, as they are usually more tolerant of light than th emaximas, and croceas. what are you rtank specs? btw
p.p.s. the blue linkia starfish are detritus and micro-flora/faunae eaters. i would only reccommend trying one in a well established system. they are very sensitive to changes in water quality, temp, ph, etc, and must be acclimatised very carefully, they also tend to suffer from shipping and handling, and if you do buy chance purchase one, never touch it with your hands, as it has been reported that the oils on our skins damage teh star, and never expose it to air, as air gets trapped in its water vascular system, causing it to perish.
other than that, good luck

IMO.. I have the PERFECT combo of fish in my 75 gallon. The colors are beautiful and the fish are all very hardy and rather inexpensive.
1 Yellow Tail Damsel
1 Three stripe Damsel
3 Green Chromis
1 Royal Gramma
1 Yellow Tang
2 True Percula Clowns
Everyone says that the Damsels are nightmares but personally I think they are like most other creatures in this hobby...you always take the chance that you will get a "bad apple". Im not sure if I lucked out with my fish, they all get along so good. I did have problems with a few fish over the last several months. The most vicious fish I've owned was a Cinnamon Clown. He was very territorial. He thought the WHOLE tank was his and he did kill a few small fish I've had. Another bad one was a Three-spot damsel that would terrorize the other fish. I finally removed him. I have not had any luck with the gobys in my tank. They always dissapear in a few days. Something in my tank is eating good.
Fish lost:
2-? Blennies (dissapeared)
1-Mandarin Goby (dissapeared)
1-Lawnmower Blennie (dissapeared-may have starved)
1-Flame Scallop (?)
1-Yellow Tail Damsel (jumped out)
1-Fire Fish (jumped out)
1-False Perc. (killed by Cinnamon)
1-Yellow Tang (?-maybe also killed by Cinnamon)
