Can anyone explain the difference between the 2?Im currently fowlr and would like to upgrade.thanks

Well, basically the FOWLR is just that. The tank has live rock and fish. Reef tanks, the emphasis is on corals, inverts, not fish.

While I am agreeing with Beth, it seems to me that the line between "fish only" and "reef" tanks is getting very thin these days. I almost think that we should be calling them "live corals" and "live rock" tanks. In any case its up to you what you want to call it since its your tank.
Remember even on living "coral" reefs in the ocean there are many "rocky" areas on the reefs that do not have lots of corals growing on the rocks. This is where "live rock" comes from. So if you have a "FOWLR" tank you are really just having a different kind of "Reef" biotope.
