Reef or saltwater?

All right can someone tell me the differance between a reef tank and a saltwater tank? Is it just live rock or is it the waves and foamy reef or the coral? Whats the deal?

well a reef tank usually will house a few fish but will be mostly live corals, ( sponges, mushrooms, etc ) also requires alot more work additives lighting etc, saltwater tank can be what ever u want it to be can be fish only with crushed coral on the bottom, or can be fish with live rock , or can be fish with live rock and deep sand bed the latter being the better since the live rock and DSB will be a great biological filter for you
