I have a all fish setup right now and am looking to do a reef. Do I need a Metal Halide for the corals?

Simple answer is no, intelligent answer is factor in budget and types of corals you want to keep

For certian corals you need MH, T5s or at least Power Compacts.
However there are lots of really pretty coral that can live under fish lights. They require extra care so do your homework on their needs, and require more water changes but well worth it.
Spanko posted two pictures of some beautiful tanks with such corals....
They were so pretty I kept the pictures.

Its a 75g and im currently running a coralife 48" power compact. How do i know what wattage to use for the corals?
