Reef substrate

Is Arogonite a good substrate to mix with a bit of sand. I mean I will have the Arogonite on top of the sand in my new 72G? Is this OK?

What form is the Aragonite in? ie. fine sand, crushed coral, powder, solid block, etc.

Seaflor Special Grade Reef sand 1-2mm.

Since it's related.....
I have been thinking of getting some larger substrate to put on top of my southdown to keep it from blowing around as much.
Is the 1-2mm the size I would want?
Is this even a good idea or would I be better to totally remove the SD?
I'm having problems with buildup on my sand and everytime I aim a PH down it makes dunes.
