reef tanks

When making a reef tank, what things are necessary and what things are optional(equitment and animal). For a 30 gallon tank, could I get lobsters eels and whatever else. Also, where does the plankton come from if you are using fresh water with sea salt?

1. Bigger the tank the better.
2. Good skimmer.
3. Good filtration system (wet/dry or a refugium).
4. Good lighting
5. Lots of live rock
6. Lots of live sand
7. If you can afford it a closed loop system if not powerheads
8. REALLY good test kits
9. Cleaning tools.
10. A good book.
11. Post alot of questions we will awnser.

Oh sorry for the lobster I would advice against it and for the eel to small of a tank.
