ReefVital DNA in Aggressive Tank???

I really want some corraline algae growth in my 90 gallon FOWLR/LS so I purchased some Reefvital DNA. Is this ok for my tank which is obviously not reef? Will this help with the corraline algae or should I just point a powerhead at a piece already covered with algae, or crush some corraline and disperse it? Thanks for the help.

Not a corraline algea expert at all but have read that it takes time and a high alkalinity and calcium level will help.
Mine is SLOWLY speading with small patches of pink and purple.
