refrigerated squid

hey all... simple question.
It's a pain to get the squid out of the freezer - with it all frozen together. So I broke off a few pieces and put them in the refrigerator. The next day I went to use them. Man! do they stink! Have they gone bad? or is that just how squid smells?
So my overall question is - how long can squid stay fresh in the refrigerator? Thanks...

Squid doesn't smell any worse than other seafood; there's a big difference between "healthy, but fishy" and "stinky fishy". I always take frozen food out early in the evening and get three days feedings out of it. (48 hrs). If it smells "bad" ( a relative term for squid, etc); I'd toss it. Cheap insurance.
