Refugium flow for FOWLR tank

I know in the past the main theory was to have a huge sump and get as much flow as possible thru the sump. I have been doing a lot of research for setting up a refugium with live sand and algae. Some say flow inside the tank is more important than a high flow thru the refugium and some say keep high rate thru the refugium. It seems like a slower rate would allow the nitrates to be consumed more effictively, what are your opinions?

The norm. for turn over in sump is 10 times the tank volume per hour. You want low flow threw your refug. The flow in your tank depends on the needs of creatures you have living in there.

Thanks, I think I am going to use my Mag-drive model 5 for the refugium and have more movement in the tank with a couple of Aquaclear filters and power heads.
On a different note, what type of paint should be used for the outside back glass of an aquarium?

Any paint on the outside will do just wipe it off when salt gets on it because the salt may cause it to bubble.
