Refugium help

I just made a refugium in my sump. What types of algea should i put in it? SHould i put a few snails in it? Do i need to add live sand? It would be better if i didnt add live sand because it will seep through to the side with my pumps and protein skimmer and make a mess.

Most people use Chaeto in their fuge. It's a denitrifying macroalgae. Also, you can put a sponge filter over the intake on your fuge pump to reduce the amount of stuff that gets in to the pump
