refugium lighting hours

I read somewhere that when you turn out the lights over a refugium tank the plants then take oxygen from the water.......if this is the case then how many hours should you leave these lights on /off ?
at the moment I have them on 24/7

if you dont want them on 24/7.. try to have them on at night, since the algae in your tank is not producing oxygen during nighttime hours.
