Refugium lighting?

What kind of lighting can I use on a refugium..I read here somewhile back that lights of america compact flourescent would work. I bought one that runs about 100 watts. Or do I need something else for the calerpa, etc. I want to make sure I provide it enough. Light spectrum isn't as critical for this is it. I just don't want to end up with an algae crash due to insufficient lighting.Thanks..by the way it's going over a divided 30 gallon with about 12 inches of water in it.

Can't say I have done it, but everything I ever read about used just a couple fluorescents. I would guess a 100 watt compact would work to grow some algae. If it doesn't, get some tubes. ;)

Sorry to say,but you just wasted your money.Regular normal output flo's is all you really need.I run two 18inch gro light bulbs over my 10 gallon, and the algae has grown so thick you cant see two inches into the tank...I also leave them on 24/7.Maybe you could put those expensive lights on your main tank...
