Refugium Lighting

Just curious what everybody would suggest for a 10" wide fixture to use above a refugium. Would I be OK with the $30 Marineland LED light?

Thanks!

Hi,

You can't post a link from other stores on here...remove it by editing before a mod sees it. We all have messed up and done it when we first joined...LOL..That's why we know the rule..

Just like coral, the type of macroalgae you select, will determine the light needs. If you don't have macroalgae in your refugium, you don't need any light, since the tiny critters actually prefer the dark. As a rule most macros do not require strong lighting, I have heard of folks using regular light bulbs, to plant growing lights. as long as the light is strong enough to produce algae, your refugium should thrive.

Thanks for the input, not sure exactly what macro I'll be using, my cousin has been using Chaeto and it's been working well, I'll probably end up stealing some of that from him.

As far as posting the link, does it matter that I purposely checked that this site doesn't sell it before I included it? Regardless, I updated it to the manufacturer's site - thanks for the heads up.
