I am in the process of building a new sump/ refugium. I have used mud in my exsisting setup. Question- is there any difference in using mud verse live sand in a refugium.

I don't know much about this...but I have heard mud can go wrong, very wrong. Then again DSB can too.

Can you please elaborate on this? I heard mud is the way to go and actually thats what I recently just ordered for my fuge/sump I am building.

Not really. Like I said, I don't know much about this topic. All I know is a few posts Ive read and heard people speak cautiously about Mud. some like it, some don't.
Its like all things in this hobby, there are people who will tell yo something is a good idea, then on another forum, you will have people scream at you that your an idiot.
I wont lean either way till I personally spend a few days reading up on the topic. I'm on the fence myself.
I know that's about as vague as it gets, sorry :(

I just got a Gallon of Mineral Mud for my fuge making a 1" deep bed. Once everything is established I will monitor my tests and report back on the topic.

Thanks. And if you don't mind a PM for me in case I miss the results. Id like to possibly do mud as well, Im just leary since more people do DSB than Mud.

"provides a variety of trace elements, chelated trace elements, plus calcium, strontium, iron, sulfur and free carbon. In addition, Mineral Mud™ contains live marine bacteria, to complete the tropical ecosystem."
From what I gathered it's basically a planting/soil substrate for the Caulerpa/Macro Algaes that slowly release trace elements.
But I will keep you updated
