Refugium Questions...DSB+Algae

im building a 20 gallon sump for my reef tank that has about a 11"X12" area for a fuge. i was thinking of doing a deep sand bed around 6" because i heard that height gives you the most benefits. i was then gonna fill the rest of the fuge up with chaeto and some live rock. does all of this sound good? also...would adding any fish/inverts to the fuge be a good idea (to sift sand and keep it clean)? what ones should i add? thanks.

people like mangroves, but i think they are a waste unless the fuge is out for other people to see, ive also heard of people using xenia, guess you could use hermits or nassarius snails to sift the sand
