Refugium Return DIY - Help!!!

I had to replace the pump in my fuge so I built a whole new return system with a ball valve (more powerful pump). Anyway, everything works great except when I cut power and the system siphons the water out of my tank overflowing my fuge (almost before I figured out what was happening)!
My old return line had a small hole in it. I assume that is the problem. Where should I drill a hole in this system?
Here is a pic.

So I think the hole is the problem. 3 questions...
1) I need a hole. Am I right?
2) If so, where?
3) How big of a hole?

You should drill a hole right above the water line, where a stream of water comes out.
A moderatly large hole. about the size of an eraser on a pencil

It actually does not matter too much. You need it close enough to the water line so that the siphon is broken before you overflow your sump/fuge.
My hole is actually at the water line as that is where I have tubing instead of pipe.

If you put the outlet just below the water line then it will break the siphon when the water gets to it and you won't need a hole. Just make sure the out let is just below the water line
